Applying Ice To Injuries
Apply ice for 15 minutes, two to four times per day immediately following an injury to control tissue inflammation and pain. Injuries can remain inflamed for some time, so continue to use ice if you have pain at rest and the area is swollen and/or warm to the touch. Begin heat treatment when your main problem is stiffness or mild pain with movement, and the area is no longer warm to the touch.
